Dear Friends and Acquaintances,
I have your contact information from one or more projects volunteering in the KCK public schools. I am sending this same message to various contacts because you helped with the campaign to pass the school bond or have worked with me on maintaining quality in our schools.
As you know, the recent $235 Million school bond is paying for upgrades to all of the district’s buildings and in a few cases brand new school buildings. From the questions they ask and the staff reports they are requiring, it seems some of the current school board members are concerned about the way the staff is handling the work. I am not clear what the problem is, but I am concerned because I would like to see all the work in progress just keep progressing.
We have an opportunity for real time transparency. Our community intent was to bring our schools into the 21st century, and I think we should make sure the board is carrying out our original intent. There is a special meeting of the school board tomorrow that is an update from the staff on all the construction projects to date. I think it will be encouraging to see what has already been done, and informative in trying to understand the dynamics between the board and the staff. Because it isn’t a regular board meeting, it won’t be recorded. Please join me if you are able.
