One of the comments received by this page on a previous post was asking "Who we are". As outlined in the sidebar, most of us got involved in the Advisory Committee when the District began to review the need for physical work on all of the schools. This group met beginning in early 2016 and, with the help of the professional staff of the District, did a comprehensive review of each and every building in the District; how old was it, how many students could it reasonably hold, what were the costs to heat and cool, what were the insurance costs, etc.
The members of the committee included community volunteers, Unified Government staff, KCK Police officers, Teachers and staff from the schools, Economic Development leaders - a true cross section of the various parts of the community that benefit most from a strong school district.
The end result of that committee was the recommendation to the School Board for a no-tax-increase bond issue to immediately begin work on the buildings of the District. And, joyfully, when the Board approved the Bond issue and it went to the public for a vote it passed with a 70% approval vote. The community demonstrated their trust in the District and there is a reason so many awards have come their way.
Then the School Board composition changed and our community group began to see trends that caused some concern. Each School Board has the right - in fact the duty - to understand the various facets of the tremendous responsibility they have to govern this organization. But, their own policy manual stresses that their role is to be one of setting policy and directing the work of the Superintendent who then directs the work of the professional staff. There seems to be a real push for the current board to become involved in the day-to-day tasks, micromanaging in a way that does not honor the work of the staff. The real fear is that this very micromanagement will cause some financial penalties if the progress on the Bond issue does not proceed in a planned, timely way.
So - you asked who were are. In this day of rabid personal attacks it will be left up to each member of this group to self-identify with total understanding if they elect to stay in the background out of a sense of self-protection. This site is funded personally by one of the committee members and it OBVIOUSLY not being generated by a tech professional or many of the items would look much better.

Thank you for the question and here is hoping you now feel like you have an answer.
