The Kansas City Board of Education participate in a Board Retreat facilitated by Dr. Kenneth Wesson. Board discussion will cover the following topics:
Working with the Superintendent
Goals for the Retreat:
Improve board cohesiveness
Discuss the different roles and responsibilities of the superintendent and the school board
Discuss “the effective school board member” versus “the ineffective school board member” school
Improve the efficiency of board meetings
Enhance the public perception of the school district and the school board
The Board may meet to conduct a self-evaluation of its own performance annually. The review
schedule should be such that it allows for reflection on the successes and challenges which serve to guide the establishment of goals and direction for the district. As part of the self-evaluation process, the Board may solicit input from district staff and the community.
As essential part of the self-evaluation process is a focus on Board governance. It is expected that the Board will look carefully at its conduct during Board meetings, its adherence to policy, its treatment of and engagement of the public, staff and one another.
